Get Your Hike On!

Colorado has hundreds of miles of trails that are just your speed. Not only are they easy to access, but the catalog of available hiking experiences is incredibly diverse. Living in Colorado I’ve had my fair share of hikes. I wouldn’t say I’m an expert, so I tend to look for easy hikes. For the most part, hiking is relatively inexpensive. For someone who is new to outdoor activities hiking the Bear Lake Trail is a good place to start.

The Bear Lake Trail is a short 0.6-mile loop around a beautiful lake with views of the Rocky Mountains. This trail is perfect for people who aren’t so familiar with hiking. The trail is an easy walk around a high-mountain lake with peak views. Tucked into the spruce/fir forest at the base of Hallett Peak and Flattop Mountain, this is one of the Rocky Mountains most famous trails. The hike begins just beyond the Bear Lake Ranger Station. Near the start of the loop, along the eastern shore of the lake, you'll have a view of Hallett Peak.

As you move through the trail you'll have a amazing view of Half Mountain that sits in front of Longs Peak.

The trail offers frequent benches and resting places, with lots of opportunities for peak views. The added benches are great for new hikers. They can rest and don’t have to push themselves to get through the trail. If you plan on visiting the trail I would recommend starting your hike first thing in the morning, especially if you wish to avoid the crowds, since this is an extremely popular destination. Starting early will also provide you with an opportunity to possibly go home with some great photos.

Bear lake is the epicenter of Rocky Mountain National Park. This means that you can access a ton of trails from here, which are all equally beautiful. Take a risk and and try out the Bear Lake Trail, you will love it and you won't get enough.
