Ice Skating in NYC

Winter is upon us, and for most of us that means cuddling up on the couch with some hot chocolate, a blanket, and watching movies. Just because it’s cold doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors! Brave potential frost bite for some city fun in the snow. What’s that? A little snow on the ground? Don’t let cold temperatures and slick sidewalks keep you from enjoying the best things to do outside this winter. In fact, one of the most beautiful places to be after a snow storm is at one of the best NYC parks. In NYC when the temperature drops that means it’s time to go ice-skating. Ice-skating can be intimidating especially if you’re just starting to get out there. Bryant Park Winter Village offers free ice-skating on a 17,000-square-foot outdoor rink (you may bring your own skates or rent for $20).

Don’t be intimidated, if this is your fist time ice-skating they offer free skating lessons. There are two sessions (1pm & 2pm). The walk-up registration begins 45 minutes prior to each session at the rink. Since there are Limited spots available make sure to plan ahead to get there a little early. The lessons are for all ages and levels

Bryant Park is located on 41 W 40th St between Sixth and Fifth Avenues. The operating hours are daily from 8am to 10pm all the way through March 4. Here are some useful tips before you head over there. Mornings are less crowded, but going in the evening is magical with all the lights! If you can try going on weekdays to skip long lines and a congested skating. Make sure you wear waterproof pants, gloves and warm clothing. In NYC, there are many ice skating rinks but this particular one is usually less crowded than the rink at Rockefeller Center. Here is a map on that can guide you through the park.

Once you’re done ice-skating head over to the hundreds of boutique shops in an open-air market in the park, featuring artisans from all around the world! Very fun to explore. You’ll find great gift ideas for home decor, jewelry, food, sweets, clothing and more. You’ll find delicious food and hot drinks to grab. Winter Village at Bryant Park is a great destination to go with friends, with a date, with family or on your own.
