Why Camping?

I’m not a big fan of sleeping in tents. I will be very honest about that. But on a camping trip in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, it was so much fun. Just to prepare those who are new to camping, there will be bugs, there is no indoor plumbing, and showers aren’t gonna be a thing the entire trip. But, it’s totally worth it.

What do you need when you go on your first camping trip? My first suggestion, someone who knows what to do when camping. While you may be new to camping, you definitely need someone who knows the ropes. There’s a lot to do, from building a fire to setting up the tent and cooking meals. It’s also true that camping materials aren’t cheap, but if you know someone who is already into camping, you’re all set.

The key to a great camping trip is being able to go with the flow. There is always going to be something that doesn’t go according to plan. Like when I went, half the tent poles were broken, so we pulled out some duct tape and put everything back together, and got on with the trip. There’s never going to be anything that is perfect, but it will be a lot of fun nonetheless.

Lucky for us, it only rained two out of the seven days we were camping, but those two days of rain involved a lot of nothing. If you’re gonna camp, you need to be sure to have card games and backup plans in case the weather falls by the wayside. When it wasn’t raining, we went to the lake, sat on the beach, went on hikes and had fire pits. There’s never a dull moment, even in Wisconsin. There was humidity, and bugs, and it was hot, but it wasn’t bad in the end.

If you’re new to camping, try and keep an open mind. There’s a lot to be done, a lot of work to put in when setting up and taking down the campsite, but it’s all fun if you’re with the right people. There’s no reason not to give it a try, it’s worth the experience. There’s nothing better than some s’mores and a nice fire with your friends.
